I began this Throwback Thursday meme as a way to share some of my old favorites as well as sharing books that I’m FINALLY getting around to reading that were published over a year ago. You know, the ones waiting patiently on my TBR list while I continue to pile more titles on top of them:)! I like that these older books are usually much easier than new releases to get a hold of at libraries and elsewhere. If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board, you’re welcome to use my pic as well. If you’d just link back to me I’d so appreciate it.
My PICK this week is:
Published 2009 By Bantam Press
My Rating: 4/5 stars
Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, but suddenly that imagination seems to be in overdrive. Normal professional twenty-something young women don’t get visited by ghosts. Or do they?
When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie-a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance-mysteriously appears, she has one request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, because Sadie cannot rest without it.
Lara and Sadie make a hilarious sparring duo, and at first it seems as though they have nothing in common. But as the mission to find Sadie’s necklace leads to intrigue and a new romance for Lara, these very different “twenties” girls learn some surprising truths from and about each other. Written with all the irrepressible charm and humor that have made Sophie Kinsella’s books beloved by millions, Twenties Girl is also a deeply moving testament to the transcendent bonds of friendship and family.
******
I’m not sure I’ve featured Sophie Kinsella on TBT yet so I thought mid-summer would be a perfect time to feature one of her books. I’ve read all of her standalones and liked just about every one except her most recent My Not So Perfect Life. That wasn’t my favorite. Her standalones, especially her older ones, were always my auto buy, go to, funny, feel good reads every year. I remember really liking this one because Sadie was just a hoot and Lara was a character I rooted for. Of course, there’s just something special about the way Sophie Kinsella writes that makes you feel like you’re with a good friend. She brings her characters to life with wit and humor and makes you want the best for them. Just plain feel good, fun reading! Twenties Girl would be a great place to start if you haven’t read any of her books and if you have but have missed this one go ahead and add it to your last minute summer tbr’s.
HAPPY READING!

I have never read anything by Sophie Kinsella. That seems crazy even as i write it. This is a situation I need to fix!

Susie, you should definitely try one of her older standalones…this one and Wedding Night are 2 of my favorites but really you can’t go wrong with any of them:)

I adore Sophie Kinsella! This is definitely one of my favorites along with Remember Me,The Undomestic Goddess, Wedding Night…oh they are all great! But I agree her last one wasn’t her best. Just like I was glad she finally ended the Shopaholic series even though it had been a favorite of mine for years. But it had gone a little off at the end! Great book choice!

You just named all my favorites of her as well! Oh I’ll add Can you Keep a Secret to that list. I could never get into the Shopaholic series. Let’s hope her next one is much better!!

Definitely, Can You Keep A Secret!! Looking back, I wasn’t a big fan of Finding Audrey either, but that could have just been my reading mood in 2015.
I started the Shopaholic Series before I read her standalone books, which is how I discovered her standalones, lol! I admit they aren’t as good, but I fell for Becky’s mindless goofiness since they were such easy reads, especially since I was a young mother to a 2 or 3 yr old and an infant when I discovered her books. Mindless drivel was about all I could do most of the time when I even had a chance to read, lol. But wow, those books went downhill after about the 3rd or 4th, so I was so glad she ended the series although I still haven’t read the last in case it was painful.
Did you ever read any of her books written as Madeleine Wickham, her real name? They were written before her Kinsella books and are a bit more serious chick lit. I enjoyed most of them…they are a bit more like Jennifer Weiner’s books if I can think of a comparison. I’m a sucker for British chick lit, lol!

I haven’t read any of her others under her real name but I do have cocktails for three on my tbr…somewhere:)

That’s probably my least favorite…Sleeping Arrangements,
Gatecrashers, The Wedding Girl, and Swimming Pool Sunday are, in my opinion the better ones.

ok thanks that’s good to know, I’d like to try one of those when I’m in the mood for something light:)

You’re welcome! I do think they are a bit heavier than her Kinsella books but that’s because the subject material is a little more dramatic. 😊

I haven’t read anything from her either. So this does look like a good one to start with. I need more feel good books.
Great choice, Renee 🤗

I had so much fun with this one. I barely remember the plot, only that there was a particular scene where there was like a possession (?) and it made me laugh 😀

Her books aren’t really my things but they do make the perfect beach read (which is the only time I tried one haha). Good to hear you enjoyed it!

I have a copy of Twenties Girl on my bookshelf though I am yet to read it. I recently bought Wedding Night too. I liked Kinsella’s Shopaholics series. Hopefully I will be able to read her other books soon.

I’ve never read any Sophie Kinsella but it does sound like, lovely light summer reading! I’m trying to break away a bit from my usual well-worn path so I’ll put her on my wish-list – though I doubt it’ll be this summer since I’m so far behind… as usual!

She’s very light reading and her books make for good all year long reading so maybe you’ll fit one in when your mood hits in fall or winter:)

I really enjoyed The Shopaholic series when I was a little younger but I haven’t picked up a Sophie Kinsella book in a long time. Maybe it’s time to revisit her writing and see if I can get into her standalones.

I love Sophie Kinsella! I did a feature of her and all of her books under my Author Obsession series. This is probably one of my favorites.. I actually really like My Not So Perfect Life, but, I went into it mad as hell at social media and I thought it was a great look at how social media can negatively affect us. It is different from her usual books (more like Finding Audrey, right?) so I can how it could not be your favorite. Great TBT choice!

Thanks so much! I know I’m in the minority with My Not So Perfect Life, most people seemed to really enjoy it. I’ll still be first in line for her next novel…I love her writing style:)
